real play it loud gameboy

ever thought to yourself: " why cant my gameboy be louder ? when i am outside i can only use headphones :'( "

well i think i got the answer for you..

get yourself a mini amplifier board like i did, mine arrived today and they run with the gameboy internal 5v.
you can also now use the prosound output from the pot to drive your speaker with those boards.

you dont believe that it can really get so loud that you are not even able to speak to a person in the same room (without shouting) ?

well, look no further... here is the video:

and here is a pic of the wiring and the board inside of the gameboy, i took the 5v directly from the switch and the audio comes from the prosound mod for better frequency response

easy fit ;-)

  1. This interests me a lot. Where did you get these amplifier boards from? Can you link me to it?

    1. Yeah the bass comes out pretty good etc.
but be aware that if you have stereo shifts (left/right) you can only connect one channel to the speaker. the amplifier doesnt allow you to connect left and right to one channel for mono use, but thats ok !
Also be sure to wire the prosound mod jack PRE POT because then you can mute the speaker seperately (this is what i did yesterday because i realized its the only way) have phun, and take care :)

    2. Hmmm, I hadn't thought about the implications of stereo sound with this. I intended to install this on my bass DMG (I rely heavily on the wav channel) and I mostly run everything through center, but are you saying that the speaker will only be able to receive L|R, and there is no way to recombine post amp?

    3. I dont know why it doesnt work, but it seems that you cant combine Left and Right with this Amp (when you do so the amp will act all crazy), also just running the Speaker Signal inside the amp will not work. You have to stick to one channel with the AMP, which is not a big problem for me. I just connect headphones to my dmg if i want to listen to stereo effect stuff.

  3. What kinda effect if any noticable does this have on battery life? Just ordered one to throw in a Gameboy Color.

  4. Hello i installed one of these amps into my Gameboy DMG and noticed that when i turn the volume up all the way it causes the gameboy to freeze up and crash.
Also when i plug the headphones into the headphone jack it does not mute the speaker. Is there any layout that shows how to wire up the amp so that when i plug the headphones in it mutes the speaker?

    1. Never mind my last post. The reason why the game boy was crashing because the mini amplifier was drawing too much power when i turned the volume up causing the gameboy to freeze. I fixed that by adding a 100 ohm resistor to where the mini amplifier draws it power.
I also wired the amplifier differently so the speaker will now mute when i plug headphones in. To do that i connected the amplifier input to where the original speaker out put was at. The only draw back is that it picks up a little more noise but the speaker now mutes.

  5. Hi, I just want to know how you manage it to mute the internal speaker if headphones are connected. I have the same amplifier but I failed to figure it out. Please respond.
